El gobierno nacional ha sancionado la ley 70 del 31 de Octubre de 2017, que modifica un artículo del Código Penal, referente al maltrato animal.
Establece que quien mediante actos de crueldad, cause la muerte o lesione gravemente a una animal usado como mascota, será sancionado con prisión de 1 año y seis meses hasta los dos años, o su equivalente en días multas o arresto de fines de semana de comprobarse la falta.
Esta ley modifica el artículo 421 del Texto Único del Código Penal y fue creada atendiendo el llamado de la sociedad civíl debido a la gran cantidad de casos que en los últimos años se han reportado en nuestro país donde se evidencia el maltrato animal.[:en]The National Government approved Law 70 of October 31, 2017 which amends an article on the Criminal Code in relation to animal abuse.
It establishes that the person who performs acts of cruelty, causes death or seriously harms an animal considered a pet, shall be punished with imprisonment of a year and a half up to two years, or its equivalent in daily fines or weekend imprisonment if the offence is proven.
This law amends article 421 of the Single Text of the Criminal Code and was created accepting the suggestion of the civil society due to the great number of cases reported during the last years in our country evidencing animal abuse.
